About this position
The University of Sydney is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Centre for Education and Research on Ageing (CERA), within the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Concord Hospital and The University of Sydney Concord Clinical School.
The Fellow will support the NHMRC-funded program “Optimising Care for Older Adults in Hospital: Innovative Education & Consumer Voices in Junior Doctor Education”. The research addresses ageing, geriatric care and medical education, with a strong emphasis on improving hospital care for older adults through education, consumer partnership and translational research.
Led by Dr Janani Thillainadesan, the team works closely with older adults, carers, community representatives, clinicians and NSW Health stakeholders. The Fellow will coordinate a dynamic consumer research advisory group, organise meetings and co-design activities, and partner with older adults and carers as co-investigators across the research lifecycle.
The role includes qualitative and quantitative data collection, coding, analysis and interpretation; co-design workshops and participatory research tailored to ageing populations; development of peer-reviewed manuscripts and conference presentations; contributions to grants, ethics submissions and governance; and collaboration with healthcare services and senior stakeholders to support practical outcomes. The Fellow will also help manage project timelines and research administration, contribute to the team’s research profile, supervise or mentor students and junior researchers, and communicate findings through professional and public engagement.
This is a collaborative research environment connecting academic researchers, consumers, clinicians, community representatives and NSW Health partners in work focused on better care and education for older adults.
