About this position
The Finbloom Lab in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a CIHR-funded project on the development and delivery of bacterial therapeutics.
The research combines bacterial synthetic biology, genome engineering, strain development, biomaterial engineering, nanotechnology, drug delivery, microbiology, and molecular biology. The postdoctoral researcher will engineer therapeutic bacterial strains, investigate nanomaterial–bacterial interfaces, and conduct in vitro and in vivo studies using murine models of inflammatory bowel disease and bacterial infection.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field completed within five years before the start date. A strong first-author publication record, scientific writing ability, and excellent communication skills are required. Relevant experience may include E. coli engineering, gram-positive bacteria such as Lactobacillus, PCR, molecular cloning, Western blotting, quantitative phenotyping, mouse disease models, biomaterials, or drug delivery.
The expected salary is $60,000 CAD, with a comprehensive benefits package. The initial appointment is one year, renewable subject to funding and performance. The expected start date is May 2027, with flexibility. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled, with the posting deadline listed as February 28, 2027.
To apply, email one PDF containing a maximum two-page cover letter and maximum five-page CV, including contact details for at least two references, to Prof. Joel Finbloom at [email protected].
