About this position

Aarhus University is recruiting a three-year postdoctoral research fellow in Human-Centered AI for Data Visualization within the Center for Anytime Anywhere Analytics (CA3), led by Professor Niklas Elmqvist in the Department of Computer Science.

The position sits at the intersection of data visualization, human-centered AI, human-computer interaction, visual analytics, and related XR topics. The research focus is on making visual analytics more reliable and accessible by integrating AI and machine learning methods, including large language models, into the visualization pipeline. Example directions include AI-assisted visualization tools, mixed-initiative sensemaking, eliciting domain knowledge, query generation, and empirical studies of trust and reliability in AI-augmented systems.

This is a full-time, on-site postdoctoral position in Aarhus, Denmark, funded by CA3. The appointment runs for 36 months, with a starting date of 15 November 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is aimed at candidates with a strong research profile and experience in building research software and computational tools.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a Ph.D. in computer science, informatics, or a closely related field by the start date. A strong publication record in visualization, visual analytics, HCI, or human-centered AI is expected. Preferred experience includes AI/ML integration, open-source development, and empirical user-study methods.

How to apply: submit the application through Aarhus University’s recruitment system. The application must be in English and include a CV, degree certificate, publication list, future research plan, and teaching-related documentation if applicable. The deadline is 1 September 2026 at 23:59 CEST.

Informal inquiries can be sent to [email protected]. The university notes that shortlisted candidates will be evaluated after the deadline.
