About this position

University College Dublin is seeking a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 to join the Centre for BioNano Interactions (CBNI) within the UCD School of Chemistry. This temporary nine-month research appointment is connected to the Research Ireland-funded Bio-inspired particle architecture delivery technologies (Bio-PADT) project.

CBNI is a highly cross-disciplinary and internationally recognised research grouping led by Prof. Kenneth Dawson and Prof. Yan Yan. The group advances the understanding and application of novel synthetic and cell-derived nanoscale structures that interact with living systems. Its research combines bio-nano science, chemistry, molecular microbiology and the study of nanostructure–biology interfaces.

The successful researcher will join a dynamic team working to obtain a complete understanding of how nanostructures interact with living systems. The project focuses on bio-inspired particle architecture and delivery technologies, providing an environment for research at the intersection of molecular microbiology, nanoscale materials and biological systems.

The position is intended for an early-stage postdoctoral researcher, including someone who has recently completed a PhD or is entering a new research area. The fellow will contribute to CBNI’s interdisciplinary research environment at University College Dublin.

Funding details

What's required

Applicants should be highly motivated postdoctoral researchers with a research background in molecular microbiology. The PD1 position is intended for early-stage researchers, either shortly after completing a PhD or entering a new research area for the first time. Applicants who have completed their PD1 stage at UCD, will soon complete a PD1, or whose total postdoctoral experience including this appointment would exceed four years should not apply and should instead refer to PD2 posts.
