About this position
University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the PERCS project: Prioritization of Perennial Restoration in Agricultural Landscapes.
The postdoctoral fellow will join a multidisciplinary team studying carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services, and farmer livelihoods in Canadian agricultural landscapes. The successful candidate will support the Spatial Science/Synthesis component of the project and help develop new modelling and prioritization tools for identifying where perennial restoration features such as hedgerows, windbreaks, and riparian restoration can provide the greatest multifunctional benefits.
Research activities include modelling the impacts of perennial features on ecosystem services and biodiversity, parameterizing spatial prioritization approaches, and creating a digital tool or dashboard for project partners. The role also involves collaboration with project leads and partner organizations, preparation of peer-reviewed publications and reports, participation in meetings and workshops, and mentoring/supervising trainees.
Ideal candidates hold a PhD and have expertise in landscape ecology, spatial ecology and modelling, agroecology, conservation decision-making, data science/data management, or related fields. Experience with spatial prioritization tools (e.g., Marxan, prioritizr), agent-based modelling (e.g., R, NetLogo), spatial analysis software (ArcGIS, QGIS, R, Google Earth Engine), and integration of ecological and social data is strongly preferred.
The appointment is based at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Salary is $70,000/year plus benefits. The initial term is 1 year, with a possible 1-year renewal. Applications are accepted via Workday and full consideration is given to applications received by 2026-09-30. Required application materials are a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references.
