About this position
The University of Exeter is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join its Technology Enabled Rehabilitation research team in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The project focuses on developing home-based rehabilitation for stroke and other neurological or ageing disorders, combining clinical expertise with experimental psychology, biomechanics, physiotherapy and mathematical methods.
Working within the National Institute for Health and Care Research Exeter Biomedical Research Centre, the researcher will help develop and implement data-collection protocols and contribute to the selection, delivery and future development of clinical assessments. The work will involve analysing human movement and behaviour, together with the physiological and psychological processes underlying rehabilitation outcomes.
The research will be conducted in state-of-the-art facilities at the University of Exeter, including VSimulators and the Motek M-Gait system, as well as in patients’ homes. The post-holder may work with motion capture, virtual reality, functional near-infrared spectroscopy and eye-tracking, supported by the wider research team. The role also includes communicating research findings to academic and non-specialist audiences, contributing to teaching and learning, supervising postgraduate research students and acting as a research team leader.
The programme is led by Professor Sallie Lamb, Mireillie Gillings Professor of Health Innovation, with further role information available from Dr Will Young. The researcher will collaborate across disciplines and engage with vulnerable patient groups, including older adults, stroke survivors and people with Parkinson’s disease.
