The work is funded by the Joint Fire Science Program and is based at Boise State University, Boise, Idaho.

The project will evaluate fire forecast products, integrate large environmental and geospatial datasets, and develop advanced statistical and AI/ML models to better understand and predict fire outcomes. Research tasks include building analysis-ready datasets, assessing forecast efficacy, fusing multiple forecast products, and collaborating with stakeholders to produce actionable guidance for fire managers.

Relevant study areas include Environmental Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Geography, and related fields such as geosciences, data science, civil and environmental engineering, and forestry. The postdoctoral role is described as a 1-year appointment with the possibility of extension to 3 years depending on performance.

Applicants should have strong expertise in AI/machine learning (including deep learning and explainable AI), statistical modeling, and handling large-scale, high-dimensional environmental and geospatial data. Experience with wildfire or climate-related applications is preferred, along with the ability to publish in high-impact journals and communicate results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred start dates are October 1 for the postdoctoral fellow and January 1 for the PhD student. To apply, send a short statement of interest and your CV directly to the contact email provided.
