About this position

The Cambridge Interfaith Programme (CIP), based in the Faculty of Divinity at the University of Cambridge, invites applications for a fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in its Peace, Conflict and Religion research programme.

The successful early-career researcher will develop an independent, three-year project examining how people and communities create, experience, contest, and sustain peace in contexts of conflict and political violence. Relevant research may explore the cultural, religious, ethical, and lived dimensions of peace and conflict; religious and cultural resources; peacebuilding; nonviolent resistance; reconciliation; repair; solidarity; social transformation; or memories and narratives of violence. Ethnographic, anthropological, and closely related interpretative approaches are especially welcome. Projects concerning the Middle East and related geographies are particularly encouraged, although other geographical, cultural, and religious settings may be considered.

The fellow will work closely with Professor Esra Özyürek, Academic Director of CIP, and contribute to seminars, workshops, and other research activities. The fellowship is supported through an internal selection process leading to an application for a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship. The Faculty of Divinity will provide the required match-funding, subject to successful selection by the Trust. The post is funded for three years in the first instance and carries a salary of £38,448–£41,885.

Applicants should submit a maximum two-page CV, a one-page publication list, a 250-word research statement, a maximum two-page research proposal, and details for two referees. Applications must be submitted online by midnight GMT on 15 December 2026, quoting reference GF51531. Informal enquiries may be sent to Professor Özyürek at [email protected].
