About this position

This postdoctoral project focuses on controlling the electronic properties of a superconducting two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) based on KTaO3 using a ferroelectric gate made from HfZrO2 (HZO). The aim is to achieve non-volatile modulation of the 2DEG by ferroelectric polarization while preserving the conducting interface quality.

The successful researcher will investigate the relationships between polarization, carrier density, and mobility, and then examine how the superconducting state can be tuned in oxide heterostructures after integration of the ferroelectric gate.

The work combines thin-film growth, device fabrication, characterization, and low-temperature transport physics. It includes developing HZO layers by atomic layer deposition and/or pulsed laser deposition, optimizing deposition conditions and electrodes, and characterizing the structural, morphological, and chemical properties of the heterostructures. The project also involves clean-room fabrication of capacitors and transistors, ferroelectric measurements, resistance and Hall-effect measurements, and low-temperature studies of critical temperature and, where accessible, the superconductor-insulator transition.

The project is hosted at the Laboratoire Albert Fert (CNRS, Thales, Université Paris-Saclay) in Palaiseau, within the Oxitronics team. The researcher will work in a collaborative environment with the lab's researchers, engineers, and doctoral students, and will have access to the growth, characterization, and microfabrication facilities needed for the project. Very-low-temperature experiments will be carried out in collaboration with Nicolas Bergeal at ESPCI Paris.
