About this position

The Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics (LAP) at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Atmospheric Modelling. The role is centered on chemical transport modelling, atmospheric composition, air quality, and analysis of large atmospheric datasets in HPC environments.

The successful candidate will contribute to CAMS4PolicyGR, a project funded under the Copernicus ECMWF National Collaboration Programme and implemented through the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The work includes TNO LOTOS-EUROS modelling over Greece, with sector-resolved source apportionment at approximately 5 km spatial resolution.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Atmospheric/Environmental Physics or Sciences, Meteorology, Environmental/Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Strong hands-on experience with at least one regional CTM (e.g., LOTOS-EUROS, CAMx, CMAQ, CHIMERE, WRF-Chem) is expected, along with experience in atmospheric pollutants, Linux, HPC, and scientific programming/data analysis, preferably using Python and NetCDF. Experience with emission inventories, source apportionment, CAMS/Copernicus products, model evaluation, satellite Earth Observation, or data assimilation is highly valued.

The position is full-time, on-site only, based in Thessaloniki, Greece. The initial contract is 2 years with possible extensions, and the salary is €1,200+ net/month depending on experience and qualifications.

To apply, send your CV and a short description of your modelling experience to [email protected], highlighting the CTMs, HPC systems, and atmospheric datasets you have worked with.

Funding details

What's required

A PhD in Atmospheric/Environmental Physics or Sciences, Meteorology, Environmental/Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required. Applicants should have practical experience with at least one regional chemical transport model such as LOTOS-EUROS, CAMx, CMAQ, CHIMERE, or WRF-Chem, experience with atmospheric composition and air-quality pollutants, strong Linux and high-performance computing skills, and scientific programming/data-analysis experience preferably in Python and NetCDF with large atmospheric or geospatial datasets. Good written and spoken English is required; experience with LOTOS-EUROS, emission inventories, source apportionment, CAMS/Copernicus products, model evaluation, satellite Earth Observation, or data assimilation is preferred.

How to apply

Send your CV and a short description of your modelling experience, especially the CTMs, HPC systems, and atmospheric datasets you have worked with, to the contact email provided. Share the post with interested colleagues if relevant.
