About this position

Postdoctoral researcher in genome stability and neurotoxicity at Erasmus MC

This is a fully funded 3-year postdoctoral opening in the lab of Jurgen Marteijn at Erasmus MC (Rotterdam, The Netherlands). The project is part of a KWF-funded collaboration with the labs of Debbie van den Berg and Femke de Vrij and sits at the interface of genome stability, transcription stress, DNA damage response, and neuroscience.

The research focuses on how chemotherapy-induced DNA damage disrupts gene transcription in nerve cells and contributes to neurotoxicity, including peripheral neuropathy and “chemobrain”. The work uses advanced human neuronal differentiation models, live-cell imaging, DNA repair assays, genome-wide CRISPR screening, and functional neuronal assays. The vacancy is especially relevant for candidates interested in transcription-coupled repair, neuronal biology, functional genomics, and DNA damage-induced transcription stress.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Biomedical or Life Sciences, Neuroscience, or a related field. Strong skills in live-cell imaging, genome stability, or iPS culture and neural differentiation are requested, along with excellent English communication skills. The post is based in a highly collaborative and internationally oriented biomedical environment at Erasmus MC.

Funding includes a temporary appointment for 3 years with a maximum gross monthly salary of €5,669 (scale 10), plus standard Dutch UMC employment benefits such as a 13th month, travel allowance, and pension support.

The deadline is 30 June 2026. Apply via the Erasmus MC vacancy portal and submit a CV, motivation letter, and at least two references.
