About this position
Freie Universität Berlin is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the Chair of Global Literature and Its Media with a Focus on Gender Studies in the Department of English Philology.
The successful researcher will develop and conduct an independent postdoctoral project drawing on Global Literatures, Postcolonial Studies, and/or World Literature with an intersectional orientation. The role connects individual research with the chair’s wider work on Anglophone literatures, cultures and media from the early modern period to the present, including literary and cultural formations shaped by empire, colonialism, migration and global circulation.
Research at the chair examines the relationships between literature, empire and coloniality; the economic, material and medial conditions of literary production and circulation; and questions of embodiment, affect, gender, sexuality, citizenship and belonging. The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate closely with the sub-project “Intervention verkörpern: Literature, Citizenship, and the Market of Belonging” within the Collaborative Research Centre “Intervening Arts”.
The position combines research, teaching and academic coordination. Activities include contributing to publications and third-party funding initiatives, supervising theses and supporting early-career researchers, and helping develop teaching materials and courses in Global Literatures. The researcher will also organise and moderate workshops, international conferences, lecture series and public-facing research events.
The role offers an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment for research connecting literary studies with media, gender, postcolonial and global perspectives at Freie Universität Berlin.
