About this position
Toyota Technological Institute in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral researcher in the Nano-Photon Science Laboratory, led by Associate Professor Tetsuhiro Kudo. The appointment is planned to begin on April 1, 2027, with flexibility depending on the successful applicant’s circumstances.
The laboratory develops optical manipulation technologies using visible, near-infrared, and mid-infrared lasers together with advanced microscope systems. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to projects involving mid-infrared nanoparticle manipulation and optical tweezers, experimental and theoretical studies of transverse radiation forces, optical pressure and radiation force calculations, improvement of optical microscopes, microspectroscopy, and nanostructure fabrication for localized electric-field enhancement.
Potential research interests include optical materials science, photophysics, photochemistry, nanooptics, plasmonics, nanofabrication, cleanroom microfabrication, and related areas of physics and materials science. The laboratory is particularly interested in researchers eager to advance mid-infrared optical manipulation and develop new optical manipulation technologies.
Applicants must hold a PhD or obtain one by the appointment date and should demonstrate research ability and a publication record in optical science or a related field. The position is a one-year fixed-term contract renewable annually for up to three years. Compensation is at least 4 million yen annually, with a basic monthly salary of 362,000 yen, insurance coverage, commuting and housing support, a meal allowance, and employee dormitory availability.
Applications must arrive between November 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027, and the recruitment may close early. Submit the required documents by email to [email protected]. An informal online pre-interview is welcome before preparing the application.
