About this position
Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) is recruiting two postdoctoral researchers for the newly established Quantum and Ultrafast Optoelectronics Unit in Okinawa, Japan.
The position sits at the intersection of physics, materials science, nanoscience, and electrical engineering, with research themes including THz and ultrafast spectroscopy of two-dimensional quantum materials, vdW devices, and the design/fabrication of vdW heterostructures and nanodevices. The unit also welcomes complementary expertise in ultrafast spectroscopy, precision spectroscopy, nanophotonics, quantum devices, qubits, microwave/high-frequency technology, antennas, and resonators.
Successful candidates will conduct research, collaborate with PIs and researchers inside and outside OIST, publish papers, present at conferences, and contribute to scientific discussions and student guidance as needed. OIST emphasizes an international, interdisciplinary environment with shared research facilities and support for independent research development.
Eligibility: PhD in physics, chemistry, or a related field (or expected by appointment), experimental research experience in condensed matter physics/optics/spectroscopy/materials science/quantum science/nanoscience/nanofabrication, a publication record, and strong English communication skills.
Funding: Full-time fixed-term employment for 2 years (6-month probation), renewable. Annual salary is about 4–6 million yen, with commuting, relocation, and housing allowances available.
Deadline: Applications must arrive between 2026-09-16 and 2026-11-30. Hiring date is listed as 2027-01-01, with start date negotiable.
