Aalto University is seeking a talented and ambitious Postdoctoral Researcher in Remote Sensing of Peatlands to join the newly established Center of Excellence in Peatlands, Climate Change and Ecological Restoration (PeatResC). This three-year, fully funded position, starting in spring 2026, is based in the School of Engineering and led by Professor Miina Rautiainen. The research focuses on developing novel remote sensing methods and analyzing satellite data to monitor water table dynamics and biophysical properties of northern peatlands, with a strong emphasis on climate change impacts, biodiversity, and ecological restoration.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary consortium involving Aalto University, University of Eastern Finland, Finnish Meteorological Institute, and University of Helsinki. The role includes participation in extended field measurement campaigns, teaching, and student supervision. The position offers opportunities to shape research questions, develop an independent research profile, and collaborate with leading international partners. Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field, possess strong experience in satellite remote sensing, advanced data analysis and programming skills, and have a record of high-quality publications. Additional assets include knowledge of peatland ecosystems, high-performance computing, remote fieldwork, and a valid EU driving license. The starting salary is approximately 4050 EUR per month (before taxes), and the position is funded by the Research Council of Finland.
