About this position
The University of Amsterdam’s Institute of Physics is seeking a postdoctoral researcher for work on stable optical circuits for quantum technology. The position is based in the Strontium Quantum Gases Group, part of the Quantum Gases & Quantum Information cluster, headed by Professor Florian Schreck, and is connected with the group’s spin-off, OpticsFoundry B.V.
The project focuses on robotic manufacturing of robust optical circuits for quantum applications. The successful researcher will design and build optical circuits incorporating components such as gain media, piezoelectric and stepper-motor positioning systems, optical cavities, spectroscopy cells and photonic integrated circuits. They will develop scalable robotic techniques for placing, aligning and integrating these elements into production workflows.
The work combines experimental atomic, molecular and optical physics with optics, electronics, control software and hands-on engineering. The researcher will prototype, test, benchmark and debug usable systems including laser-lock circuits and laser sources, while working closely with users to improve reliability and practical performance. The research builds on optical circuit technology developed for the AQuRA optical lattice clock.
The role is carried out in collaboration with the Nonlinear Nanophotonics group at the University of Twente and within a fast-paced, startup-style environment. The team works at the interface of ultracold atoms, quantum sensing, quantum computing and commercial quantum technology. There may be an opportunity to join OpticsFoundry and help bring advanced optical circuits to customers.
