About this position

Université d'Orléans is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a project focused on the formulation of a new lipophilic broad-spectrum antiviral, LAVR-289. The work is based at the Institute of Organic and Analytical Chemistry (ICOA – UMR CNRS 7311), a research environment active in the synthesis, extraction, identification and quantification of bioactive molecules with applications in therapeutics and cosmetics.

The project aims to develop topical and transdermal delivery systems for LAVR-289, with possible extension to parenteral administration. The antiviral has shown strong preclinical promise against major DNA viruses, including cytomegalovirus, varicella-zoster virus, adenoviruses and poxviruses, and preliminary in vivo work has supported topical efficacy. The project therefore emphasizes innovative dosage forms such as creams, gels, ointments and patches, especially using soft-matter or structured systems including Emulgel, Oleogel, TheDES, microspheres and polymeric films.

The successful candidate will work on formulation development and bioanalytical methods, especially HPLC-based studies to evaluate skin permeability and controlled release. The research may also integrate molecular imprinting technologies with drug delivery systems designed to optimize transdermal delivery of a broad-spectrum antiviral agent.

The laboratory offers access to advanced chemical and analytical expertise, including molecular modelling, synthesis of organic molecules, LC-HR-MS, NMR, and enzymology, along with collaboration opportunities for access to external physicochemical instrumentation. The position is full-time, temporary, and based in Orléans, France.

The post is aimed at early-career or experienced postdoctoral researchers, with a competitive salary that depends on experience. Applicants should hold a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Formulation Chemistry and have experience with topical or parenteral formulations of lipophilic compounds. Experience with soft matter systems or structured systems is strongly valued, as is evidence of strong publication output.

Applications must be submitted online through the Jobaffinity application portal. The deadline is 9 November 2026.

What's required

PhD or equivalent in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Formulation Chemistry is required. The ideal candidate has experience in drug formulation for topical and parenteral administration of lipophilic active ingredients, and preferably practical experience with separative techniques and organic synthesis (polymers or small molecules). Experience with soft matter systems such as Emulgel, Oleogel and TheDES, or structured systems such as polymeric films or microspheres, is expected. The post seeks a researcher with proven productivity in high-impact journals, the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment, and a willingness to collaborate in materials analysis.

How to apply

Apply online via the Jobaffinity link provided in the posting. Submit the application before 2026-11-09. Use the official application page for the full procedure and required documents.
