About this position
The Zierden Lab at The Ohio State University is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in biomedical engineering to study communication between bacteria and host tissues, with a focus on the vaginal microbiome and bacterial extracellular vesicles.
The researcher will lead projects examining how vaginal bacteria drive immune responses in the female reproductive tract and will probe bacterial function using multi-omics platforms. The work combines microbiology, immunology, biomolecular analysis, and engineering-oriented approaches to understand bacterial-host interactions and identify opportunities for therapeutic development.
Responsibilities include designing and conducting laboratory experiments, collecting and processing samples, evaluating tests and procedures, summarizing and interpreting results, and communicating findings through progress reports, abstracts, and manuscripts. The researcher will also critically review current literature, contribute to grant applications and publications, instruct others in laboratory methods and instrumentation, and assist with mouse colony management and animal procedures.
The multidisciplinary Zierden Lab provides access to cross-disciplinary facilities and collaborations across Ohio State’s schools of Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine. This environment supports research at the intersection of microbiology, host-pathogen biology, immune biology, and biomedical engineering.
