About this position
The Ohio State University is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Scholar in the College of Public Health, Division of Biostatistics, located in Columbus, United States.
The postdoctoral researcher will conduct methodological research in infectious disease epidemiology, developing practical and computationally efficient methods for adapting and fitting survival-analysis models to infectious disease transmission data. Projects may use household- or population-level data, including genetic sequences from outbreaks and epidemics.
Potential research areas include causal inference, model diagnostics, estimation of secondary attack risks and infectiousness profiles, reproduction-number estimation, phylogenetics, and tracking the population-level spread of infection. Approximately 80% of the appointment will involve theoretical derivations, simulation studies, implementation in R or other open-source software, manuscript preparation, and presentations. The remaining 20% will support training and mentorship, including grant-writing experience, responsible conduct of research training, and informal mentorship of a Graduate Research Associate.
The work contributes to the R01 project “Phylogenetics, causal inference, and model diagnostics for longitudinal studies of infectious disease transmission and control,” led by PI Kenah. Methods may be incorporated into the TranStat R package or other open-source software.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field. The appointment is fixed-term, contingent on funding, and will last up to three years, with possible renewal based on funding availability and performance. The estimated annual base salary is $63,900–$69,180. Final candidates are subject to a background check, and a drug screen or physical may be required after an offer.
