About this position
Harmon Lab at the University of California, Merced is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to work on managed aquifer recharge (MAR), with a focus on characterizing, measuring, and modeling recharge processes in Central California.
The postdoc will identify prospective MAR sites using geophysical methods and help coordinate and execute farm-scale field experiments at MAR spreading basins. The role combines geophysical data collection with processing, analysis, and interpretation of field-based datasets to support research on groundwater recharge and sustainable water management.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research environment connected to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Earth Institute. The project brings together researchers working on sustainable agriculture, water resources, and energy-related challenges, with responsibilities spanning research planning, experimental design, field campaigns, data analysis, and communication of results.
The postdoc will also contribute to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, preparing grant proposals, writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, and presenting research at conferences and professional meetings.
