About this position
The Colorado School of Mines School of Earth, Space and Planets is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to lead research on satellite remote sensing of lake and coastal ice. The project is centered on NOAA-funded work that develops and applies novel ice retrieval algorithms for the Great Lakes and coastal Alaska, with an emphasis on deriving ice freeboard and thickness and validating ice predictions for NOAA operational models.
The position is based in the School of Earth, Space and Planets at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. The fellow will work independently in collaboration with a faculty advisor and contribute to a weekly research meeting and regular lab discussions. The role is research-intensive and includes algorithm development, satellite data analysis, validation of model predictions, and communication of results through papers, presentations, and conference talks.
The research environment combines remote sensing, hydrodynamics, and data-driven methods in an applied Earth-systems context. The successful candidate will contribute to a project with direct relevance to operational ice prediction and coastal/lake monitoring, while also supporting broader lab research activities and mentoring-related tasks.
