Postdoctoral Scholarship in Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) for Water Adsorption and Catalysis Uppsala University in Sweden

A postdoctoral scholarship is available in the group of Associate Professor Ocean Cheung at Uppsala University, Sweden. The position focuses on the design and synthesis of functional porous framework materials, particularly metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), for applications in water adsorption and catalysis. The research group specializes in developing porous materials for environmental applications such as gas separation (including greenhouse gases), water treatment, catalysis, and drug delivery. The project will emphasize the environmental applications of MOFs, including water capture by adsorption and catalytic hydrogen generation.

Key duties include the synthesis and characterization of porous materials using techniques such as X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and gas adsorption. The successful candidate will also test materials for sorption-related applications, including greenhouse gas separation, water harvesting, and photocatalysis. Collaboration with national and international partners is expected, and the postdoc will be responsible for conducting research projects, mentoring junior researchers, and assisting in the preparation of research proposals for funding applications.

Applicants must have a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related discipline, with documented experience in porous materials (e.g., MOFs, covalent organic frameworks, or porous polymers) through advanced experimental work or computer modelling. Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Emphasis is placed on the ability to publish in high-quality journals and present research at scientific meetings.
