Research Assistant – CAMELOT: Long-term Climate Governance OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University in Norway

A 50% Research Assistant position is available for six months in the ERC-funded CAMELOT project at Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet), based at Oslo Business School in the academic unit Public Administration and Governance. The project title, CAMELOT, stands for Capacities for More Effective Long-term Climate Governance, and it examines how individuals, groups, and institutions can better think and act for the long term in the context of climate change and Earth system risks.

The position is an excellent opportunity for a master’s-level candidate interested in political science, public administration, environmental governance, sustainability science, environmental social science, or a closely related field. The research assistant will contribute to theoretical and conceptual work on long-term governance capacities and support the development of experimental research on long-term climate governance. Tasks include literature identification and synthesis across several disciplines, background research, preparation of research memos and summaries, manuscript support, reference management, citation checking, and preparation of materials for experimental design and research meetings.

CAMELOT is a five-year research project funded by a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant and led by Associate Professor Manjana Milkoreit at OsloMet. The project combines insights from political science, public administration, environmental governance, sustainability science, futures studies, psychology, and related fields. It is particularly relevant for applicants interested in climate governance, anticipatory governance, political psychology, futures studies, or experimental social science.

Applicants should have a master’s degree or be close to completing one, along with strong academic writing and analytical skills, excellent written and spoken English, and the ability to work carefully, independently, and systematically in a collaborative environment. Experience with literature synthesis tools or reference-management software is an advantage, but not required.

The role offers hands-on experience in an ambitious international research project, exposure to advanced literature review and conceptual research, and insight into the full research process from idea development to publication and study design. The salary follows OsloMet’s pay policy for Research Assistant code 1020, corresponding to 527,000 NOK per year in a 100% position, adjusted pro rata for a 50% appointment.
