About this position
Research Assistant (PhD Student) at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Chemistry, in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Bioimaging.
This position is part of the PACMAN project: “Personalized antibody-drug conjugates activated by matrix metalloproteinases for solid tumors”. The project is led by Marcin Poręba (PhD, DSc, Prof. of WUST) and is hosted within the Virtual Research Institute (WIB), managed by Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT.
The research is focused on proteases involved in the development of solid tumors, especially matrix metalloproteinases and related proteolytic mechanisms. The work includes investigation of neutrophil heterogeneity based on protease activity, toxicity assessment of ADC conjugates toward neutrophils, recombinant protease substrate specificity analysis, and studies of proteases in cancer cells using chemical probes. The broader project aims to develop a new class of antibody-drug conjugates that can be selectively activated extracellularly in the tumor microenvironment without internalization.
This is a full-time temporary research appointment at R1 level (First Stage Researcher), advertised as a PhD student position. The post runs for 12 months initially, with the possibility of extension by 32 months after positive performance evaluation, for a total of 44 months. The salary is PLN 5,393 gross per month plus an additional thirteenth salary.
Eligibility highlights include a Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, or a related field, enrolment in the Doctoral School, practical knowledge of cell biology and in vitro culture methods, experience with immune cells isolated from whole blood, and hands-on work with proteolytic enzymes and kinetic studies using recombinant proteins. Excellent English is required.
Applicants should submit the required competition documents by email to [email protected] no later than 2026-09-09 23:55 (Europe/Warsaw). The application should reference As15/W3/08/2026_ENG. Required documents include a cover/application letter, CV, proof of degree, self-report on research/teaching/organisational activity, publication list, scientific internship list and descriptions, and the required personal-data and eligibility statements.
The position is based in Wrocław, Poland, and offers a strong translational research environment with access to preclinical validation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and international exchange opportunities at a reputable technical university.
