About this position
Heidelberg University’s Institute for Mathematics is recruiting for its Scientific Machine Learning research group led by Prof. Dr. Jakob Zech. The position combines research, teaching, programme support and technical development in an environment that bridges mathematics, machine learning, data science and high-performance computing.
The appointee will contribute to the new Master’s programme Mathematics of Machine Learning and Data Science (MMLDS), helping with its implementation and further academic development. A substantial part of the role concerns the technical infrastructure of the institute and the programme, including the Data Science Lab platform and the administration of GPU-enabled HPC resources.
Research responsibilities focus on projects in scientific machine learning and related areas. The role also includes science management tasks such as supporting public outreach and maintaining the group’s web presence, alongside broader administrative duties in an academic context.
Teaching is another core element of the post. The successful candidate will teach practical programming and data science courses and supervise students in the Data Science Lab as well as in seminar and thesis projects. The position is embedded in an international research environment with access to state-of-the-art computing infrastructure.
