About this position
Lin Laboratory at the University of Southern California is seeking a Research Associate to join a multidisciplinary program focused on cancer genomics, organoid biology, and the tumor microenvironment. The lab investigates the molecular mechanisms that drive cancer development, progression, immune evasion, and therapeutic response, with a particular emphasis on head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and other upper aerodigestive cancers.
The position centers on experimental and translational cancer research using patient-derived tumor organoids, genetically defined organoid systems, and multi-omic datasets. The successful candidate will contribute to projects that connect cancer genomics and epigenomics with functional biology, tumor-immune interactions, and clinically relevant questions. Depending on background and interests, the work may involve organoid culture and characterization, molecular perturbation, drug-response studies, tumor-immune co-culture, flow cytometry, histology, imaging, and integration of experimental results with single-cell or spatial genomic data.
The Lin Laboratory is embedded within the USC Head and Neck Center and the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, offering a highly collaborative setting with access to clinicians, patient specimens, advanced genomic technologies, and multidisciplinary expertise. The role is designed for a scientist interested in gaining meaningful ownership of projects that link fundamental mechanisms of cancer with patient-derived models and translational research questions.
The position is part of a research environment that combines experimental biology, genomics, immunology, and data-driven analysis to study cancer in clinically anchored systems.

What's required
Candidates should have a PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in cancer biology, molecular biology, cell biology, genetics/genomics, immunology, bioengineering, biomedical sciences, or a related field. Minimum experience is 1 year. Preferred experience includes mammalian cell culture, primary cells or organoid culture, molecular and cellular biology methods (RNA/DNA analysis, western blotting, qPCR, immunofluorescence), cancer biology, tumor immunology, functional studies of therapeutic response, flow cytometry, microscopy, histology, quantitative image analysis, genomics, transcriptomics, single-cell or spatial data analysis, or quantitative biology. Strong candidates should be intellectually curious, careful in experimental design and data interpretation, able to work independently while collaborating effectively, and interested in developing new experimental and analytical skills.
