About this position
Texas A&M AgriLife Research is seeking a Research Associate to support wildlife conservation, ecological monitoring, and natural resource management programs at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The position is associated with the Institute of Renewable Natural Resources and contributes to research activities on an active military installation.
The Research Associate will conduct wildlife monitoring and ecological field research, including passive bat acoustic monitoring, Black-capped Vireo territory mapping, nest searches, nest monitoring, reproductive-success surveys, and Brown-headed Cowbird trapping and monitoring. The role also supports habitat improvement and invasive-plant control through vegetation management and herbicide applications carried out under applicable safety, environmental, state, federal, and installation requirements.
A substantial component of the work involves managing biological and geospatial information. The researcher will use ArcGIS, Field Maps, GPS technologies, and related tools to collect, analyze, interpret, and maintain spatial and biological datasets. The position also includes preparing technical reports, scientific summaries, presentations, manuscripts, and other project deliverables for agency partners, military stakeholders, funding organizations, and scientific audiences.
The role offers a collaborative research environment involving military personnel, government agencies, researchers, and other stakeholders. It combines field ecology, conservation biology, habitat management, wildlife monitoring, spatial analysis, and research-project coordination, with regular use of acoustic monitoring devices, GPS units, herbicide equipment, and other field technologies.
