About this position

RIKEN’s Research Center for Computational Science is recruiting a Special Research Fellow (postdoctoral equivalent) in the AI for Science / TRIP-AGIS project. The position is based in the Life Science and Medical Science Application Interface Platform Development Unit and focuses on building next-generation biomolecular analysis platforms that integrate molecular simulation and artificial intelligence.

The research themes include: (1) AI agents that support the full molecular simulation workflow from question/hypothesis formation through structure preparation, execution, analysis, and iterative reruns; (2) MD surrogate models that efficiently generate and predict biomolecular structural ensembles and transition candidates, together with methods to assess physical validity and state coverage; and (3) generative AI and integrated modeling that connect experimental data such as high-speed AFM and Cryo-EM/ET with simulations. Relevant study areas include biophysics, computational science, life and medical informatics, and AI-driven modeling of proteins and biomacromolecules.

Eligibility: applicants must hold a PhD in a related scientific field, or be expected to obtain it by the start date, and should have received the PhD within the last five years. The role also requires strong collaboration and communication skills. The appointment is fixed-term, with annual renewal possible up to five years depending on evaluation and institutional conditions.

Funding and conditions: annual income starts at 4 million yen, with a salary system that includes fixed and variable components. Discretionary work allowance, commuting allowance, and housing allowance are provided, and social insurance is included.

Location: Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. Deadline: October 27, 2027, though the vacancy may close earlier once a suitable candidate is selected. Applications must be submitted via the RIKEN recruitment website using the required electronic materials.
