About this position
Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology (BIPS) in Bremen is seeking several statisticians to contribute to cross-departmental research in large epidemiological cohort studies and related health-data projects.
The advertised positions sit within BIPS’s broader prevention research agenda, with a strong emphasis on methodological and implementation research. The institute conducts its own cohort studies, participates in the NAKO Health Study, and uses secondary data from health insurance sources to address important questions in population health.
Successful candidates will join research that focuses on one or more of five methodological themes: causal inference, machine learning, statistical analysis of cohort data, modelling of health behaviours and complex exposures, and statistical analysis of health insurance data. The work involves developing new statistical methods and applying them to real health data, contributing to joint international projects, publishing and presenting results, and developing software packages.
The role also includes supervision support for students: co-supervision of bachelor and master students is expected, and postdocs will also co-supervise PhD students. For postdoctoral researchers, the position offers the chance to pursue scientific independence and to build an independent research profile within BIPS’s supportive and collaborative environment.
BIPS describes a strong research setting with good infrastructure, close ties to the University of Bremen, and an international atmosphere. The institute highlights its focus on chronic disease prevention, lifestyle and environmental factors, biological and social determinants, early disease detection, and drug safety, offering a setting that combines methodological development with applied health research.
The advertised contact person is Prof. Dr. Marvin N. Wright.
