About this position

Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) is offering two fully funded PhD positions in the field of vocational pedagogy, pedagogy, and educational science at the Department of Vocational Teacher Education (YLU), Faculty of Teacher Education and International Studies (LUI). These are three-year positions, with the possibility to extend to four years if the candidate undertakes 25% teaching and administrative duties. The positions are intended for candidates aiming to complete a doctoral degree, and successful applicants will be affiliated with one of five research groups at the institute, focusing on areas such as lifelong learning, school-workplace-university collaboration, sustainability and technology in work and learning, and diversity in learning and qualification.

The institute is particularly interested in research projects addressing inclusion and minority-related learning challenges in upper secondary education, motivation and mastery in vocational subjects, and the role of vocational subjects as arenas for personal development. Candidates are encouraged to contact relevant research group leaders to discuss their project ideas and proposals. As a PhD candidate at OsloMet, you may also apply for a stipend to support extended research stays abroad. Admission to the doctoral program in educational science for teacher education is required before starting the position, and the final research plan must be approved within three months of commencement.

Applicants must hold a master's degree (120 ECTS) in educational science, teacher education, pedagogy, or a related discipline, with a grade B or better on the thesis (exceptions may apply). Additional requirements include documented scientific publication or R&D-related work experience, proficiency in a Scandinavian language and English, and knowledge of the Norwegian vocational education system. Experience in research activities, project participation, and teaching at the university or college level is advantageous. The application must include a comprehensive project description (max 10 pages), written in a Scandinavian language or English, detailing the research questions, theoretical framework, methodology, knowledge needs, expected contributions, timeline, planned articles, and any intended research stays abroad.

OsloMet offers a creative and inspiring academic environment, opportunities for professional development, participation in research groups, and access to welfare benefits and cultural/sporting activities. The annual salary is NOK 550,800, with a 2% pension contribution. Applications must be submitted via OsloMet's electronic recruitment system, including all required documents.

Foreign degrees must be approved by the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills. Only complete applications will be considered, and document verification may be conducted. For further information, contact Ina A.

P. Issa (studieleder) or Veerle Garrels (FoU leder). The application deadline is December 1, 2025.
