PhD and Postdoc Positions in AI for Weather and Climate

Energy Weather & AI Lab is advertising PhD and postdoc positions in AI for Weather and Climate at Delft University of Technology and Bern University of Applied Sciences . The research sits at the intersection of machine learning , Earth observation , atmospheric and climate science , and applications in energy and urban contexts . Topics of interest include weather forecasting, remote sensing, explainable AI, generative and foundation models, hybrid modelling, and physics-based modelling. PhD positions are 4-year full-time roles and are fully funded. The post mentions salaries increasing from about 50,000 CHF to 53,500 CHF across years 1–4. Postdoc positions are initially for one year with the possibility of extension up to 3 years. Travel to conferences, collaboration fees, and publication fees are covered. Applicants should have an MSc or equivalent in physics, machine learning, computer science, atmospheric or geoscience, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field. Strong Python programming, analytical and quantitative skills, and interest in remote sensing and atmospheric/climate modelling are highlighted. Experience in machine learning/AI, statistics, computer vision, image processing, or signal analysis is considered advantageous. To apply, send your CV, transcripts, theses, 3 references, GitHub profile, and publications if available. Postdoc applicants should also include their PhD thesis. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
