Postdoctoral Researcher in Next-Gen Sequencing and Machine Learning for Directed Evolution

Postdoctoral Researcher position at the University of Groningen in the Faculty of Science and Engineering , working within the ML-GUIDE consortium on next-generation sequencing , third-generation sequencing , machine learning , and directed evolution . The project focuses on making directed evolution guidable and predictable by machine learning to accelerate the discovery of tailor-made (bio)catalysts and high-affinity binders for therapeutic targets and synthetic applications. The successful candidate will lead sequencing campaigns, generate data for active learning and Design-Build-Test-Learn cycles, and contribute to biomolecule engineering and molecular evolution research. You will be embedded in the Molecular Evolution Group led by Prof. Clemens Mayer at the University of Groningen and collaborate closely with Prof. Francesca Grisoni and Dr. Robert Pollice . The broader research environment includes the Stratingh Institute for Chemistry , with strengths in bioorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, catalysis, functional materials, chemical biology, and systems chemistry. This is a fully funded postdoctoral position with a salary of €4,251–€5,760 gross per month for full-time employment. The appointment is initially for 12 months with a possible 24-month extension . Additional benefits include vacation hours, an end-of-year bonus, and holiday allowance. Eligibility highlights: a PhD (or equivalent) in (bio)chemistry , bioinformatics , synthetic chemistry/biology , or a related field; hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing libraries in directed evolution; strong English communication skills; and a strong publication record.
