PhD Assistant in Experimental Clinical & Health Psychology – Behaviour Therapy

Ghent University invites applications for a PhD Assistant position in the Department of Experimental Clinical & Health Psychology, with a focus on behaviour therapy. The role is based within the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, offering a dynamic research and teaching environment. At least 50% of the assignment is dedicated to academic research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation, specifically within clinical psychology and experimental psychopathology, with an emphasis on psychotrauma and behavioural therapeutic approaches for adults. The successful candidate will also contribute significantly to teaching activities, including the organization, supervision, and evaluation of practical sessions and seminars, particularly in the courses 'Assessment Cognitieve en Leerprocessen' and 'Gedragstherapie'. Responsibilities include preparing and teaching practical sessions, evaluating assignments and examinations, and supervising master’s theses. Additional duties involve supporting internal and external departmental services. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Psychology with a specialization in Clinical Psychology or an equivalent qualification, to be fulfilled at the start of the appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in academic research within clinical psychology and experimental psychopathology, with a specific focus on psychotrauma. Affinity with behavioural therapeutic approaches and willingness to deepen expertise in behaviour therapy (target group: adults) is essential. Teaching experience, participation in extra training or conferences, and excellent teaching and communication skills are recommended. Proficiency in Dutch is mandatory for teaching, supervision, and evaluation of Dutch-speaking students. The appointment is for two years, renewable twice for two years, with a maximum term of six years, subject to positive evaluation. Remuneration is determined according to salary scale AAP3, and Ghent University offers a comprehensive benefits package including paid leave, training opportunities, bicycle commuting reimbursement, and ecocheques. The position is scheduled to start on 1 October 2026 at the earliest.
