Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology

The Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology in Warsaw, Poland, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Laboratory of Mitochondrial Biology and Metabolism. This full-time, 15-month research contract is funded by the NCN OPUS-LAP project and offers a competitive monthly salary (~8,200 PLN gross, ~6,000 PLN net) along with benefits such as private medical care, sports activities, professional training, life insurance, and holiday funds. The research project focuses on the role of impaired autophagy and peroxisome function in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and explores targeted recovery strategies to improve the efficacy of n-3 fatty acids. The successful candidate will investigate autophagy, mitochondrial metabolism, bioenergetics, ROS production, and antioxidant defense in cellular models of steatosis. Additionally, the project utilizes a human-like, obesity-associated NAFLD mouse model to study autophagy stimulation as a potential strategy to reduce hepatic damage and prevent progression to NASH. Applicants must hold a PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, or biotechnology, obtained within the last 7 years (with possible extensions per NCN regulations). Experience in laboratory work in biochemistry or molecular biology is essential, and prior work with laboratory animals is highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate scientific achievements through JCR-listed publications, possess strong teamwork skills, and have a high motivation for experimental research. Proficiency in English is required. During the employment period, the postdoctoral researcher must not undertake other work. Foreign PhD degrees must meet Polish recognition criteria. Application materials should include a CV with a list of publications, summary of doctoral thesis, letter-of-intent, copy of PhD diploma (or equivalent), two letters of recommendation, a list of techniques and methods familiar to the applicant, a statement of no other NCN funding, and a declaration that Nencki Institute will be the primary place of employment. Applications must be sent to [email protected] with the note 'Postdoc MitoLab' by January 10, 2026. Only selected candidates will be invited for an interview with the recruitment committee. For further details about the project, visit project summary and the Laboratory of Mitochondrial Biology and Metabolism . For questions, contact Professor Mariusz Wieckowski at [email protected]. The Nencki Institute is committed to equal opportunity and data protection. Please include the required data protection consent clause in your CV as specified in the position announcement.
