Postdoctoral Research Positions in Electrical Engineering for Memristive Neuromorphic Computing

The University of Turku’s Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeking 1–2 postdoctoral researchers in Electrical Engineering for a major five-year Business Finland–funded project focused on memristive neuromorphic computing. The project aims to develop next-generation energy-efficient analog and mixed-signal hardware using patented GCMO memristors, with applications in AI, signal processing, and autonomous systems. Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary team and play a central role in designing, prototyping, and validating neuromorphic front-end electronics, synaptic crossbar circuits, and mixed-signal architectures for real-world AI and autonomous systems. As part of the Electrical Engineering team, you will be responsible for analog and mixed-signal circuit design, including synaptic crossbars, neuron circuits, and signal-conditioning blocks. You will develop read/write architectures, conduct feasibility studies for ASIC-oriented concepts, and implement hardware prototypes using custom PCBs, FPGA platforms, or microcontroller systems. Collaboration with materials physics, device fabrication, and neuromorphic algorithm specialists is integral to the project, ensuring device–circuit co-design and system-level integration. The position offers a fixed-term contract from January 1, 2026 (or as agreed) until November 30, 2027, with the possibility of extension for up to three additional years. The research environment is internationally recognized for pioneering work on GCMO memristors and neuromorphic hardware, providing access to high-quality laboratories, comprehensive occupational health care, wellbeing services, flexible working hours, remote-work options, and strong support for international researchers, including relocation assistance and onboarding services. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Microelectronics, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field. Required skills include independent scientific research, analog/mixed-signal circuit design, simulation and modeling, laboratory measurements, and proficiency in English. Preferred qualifications include experience with neuromorphic front-end circuits, memristive devices, crossbar arrays, PCB design, rapid prototyping, and hardware–algorithm co-design. The salary for postdoctoral researchers is typically 3,200–4,000 EUR/month, determined by collective agreement and experience, with a six-month trial period. The Memristor Research Group at the University of Turku is internationally recognized for its expertise in thin-film materials, device physics, circuit concepts, and neuromorphic algorithms. The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers a rich curriculum and research profile, with a collaborative and supportive work environment. The University of Turku is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusivity, and provides strong support for international hires. To apply, submit your application via the online recruitment system by December 15, 2025. Required documents include a motivation letter, CV, list of publications, degree certificates, and contact information for two referees. Interviews are planned before Christmas. For scientific inquiries, contact Professor Petriina Paturi ([email protected]) or Research Manager Quentin Huchet ([email protected]). For application process inquiries, contact HR Specialist Saija Marjasto ([email protected]).

Two Postdoctoral Researchers in Memristor Materials and Devices

The University of Turku’s Department of Physics and Astronomy is inviting applications for two fixed-term Postdoctoral Researcher positions in the Memristor and Neuromorphic Computing Research Group . The roles sit at the interface of functional materials, device physics, microfabrication, nanomaterials, and neuromorphic computing , and candidates may apply for one track or for both. The positions are based at the Wihuri Physical Laboratory in Turku, Finland. Track A is part of the OCEANAut / Business Finland project and focuses on memristor crossbar fabrication, yield, reliability, and device characterization . The researcher will develop reliable, reproducible crossbar structures for secure edge processing, intelligent sensors, and autonomous systems, with expected outputs including optimized fabrication workflows, robust characterization datasets, and scientific publications. This track is well suited to candidates with strong experience in thin-film patterning, cleanroom-style microfabrication, ALD, RIE, electron-beam evaporation, AFM, SEM, and electrical measurements , together with the ability to troubleshoot complex experimental processes independently. Track B is funded by a Research Council of Finland project and focuses on perovskite quantum dots, low-dimensional perovskites, and related semiconductor nanomaterials for memristive devices and artificial synapses. The successful researcher will work across synthesis, surface chemistry, characterization, thin-film processing, and device integration. The track emphasizes reproducible nanomaterial workflows, ligand exchange, surface passivation, stability engineering, and correlations between materials properties and switching behaviour. This position also involves collaboration with Aalto University and AMOLF , and includes an expectation of around three months of research mobility at collaborating institutions. Applicants must hold a relevant doctoral degree completed by the end of the application period. For Track A, the expected background is in materials physics, materials science, materials engineering , or a closely related field; for Track B, the relevant background is in materials chemistry, chemistry, materials science, perovskites, or semiconductor nanomaterials . Across both tracks, the University seeks researchers who can conduct independent scientific work, collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams, communicate clearly in English, and contribute to a supportive and inclusive research culture. The positions are fixed-term , with Track A initially for one year with a possible extension of up to three additional years subject to project continuation, funding, and institutional decisions; Track B is for two years. The starting salary for a postdoctoral researcher is approximately EUR 3,700–4,000 per month , depending on qualifications, skills, and experience. The application deadline is 25 September 2026 at 16:00 (Europe/Helsinki) . To apply, submit the application in English through the online recruitment system. Include a one-page motivation letter stating the preferred track(s), a two-page CV, publication list, copies of degree certificates, contact details for two referees, and any other directly relevant attachments.
