The University of Antwerp is offering a full-time doctoral scholarship holder position in Medicinal Chemistry within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences. This PhD opportunity is based at the University of Antwerp in Belgium and is embedded in the Medicinal Chemistry research group (UAMC).
The project focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterisation of novel ferroptosis inhibitors as a host-directed therapy approach in the fight against tuberculosis. The doctoral researcher will work toward the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis, publish scientific articles related to the project, and take part in a limited number of teaching and research support tasks.
Eligible applicants should hold, or be close to obtaining, a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Bio-engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Strong academic performance is required, along with teaching competences compatible with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision and research qualities aligned with the faculty and university research policies. The scholarship is initially offered for one year and can be renewed once for a three-year period following positive evaluation. The planned start date is between 1 October 2026 and 1 January 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter. Funding includes a monthly doctoral scholarship amount according to university rates, plus ecocheques, an internet-connectivity allowance, and either a bicycle allowance or full reimbursement of public transport commuting costs.
The successful candidate will work mainly at Campus Drie Eiken in a dynamic and stimulating environment, with access to the Antwerp Doctoral School’s courses and educational credit.
