Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Japan | Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) Research Fellowship 2027

The Matsumae International Foundation is inviting applications for its Research Fellowship Program 2027, a fully funded postdoctoral opportunity in Japan for non-Japanese researchers. The fellowship supports research at leading Japanese host institutions, including universities and national research institutes.

Funding: monthly allowance of JPY 220,000, arrival fund of JPY 120,000, round-trip economy airfare to Tokyo, overseas travel insurance, and a study tour to Hiroshima. The fellowship is designed to cover living expenses and research activities during the stay in Japan.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a Ph.D. at the time of application, be 45 years old or younger, be employed full-time in their home country, and plan to return home after the fellowship. Prior long-term stay in Japan is generally not allowed, except short visits such as tourism or conferences.
