About this position
This PhD position is part of the EU-funded EMANAIRE Doctoral Network and is based at the Department of Management, Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, with additional research expertise from the Department of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences. The project sits within an international network of doctoral candidates and researchers studying how AI is changing work across Europe.
The advertised PhD project focuses on AI and workplace inclusion. It examines how AI used in organizational practices such as recruitment, evaluation, communication, coordination, learning, and career development may shape inclusion and exclusion at work. The project is especially interested in how AI affects interpersonal work relations and interactions, and how these dynamics influence employees’ opportunities to participate, contribute, learn, develop, and progress in organizations.
Applicants are invited to develop their own project within this broad theme. The research can address questions around belongingness, authenticity, visibility, participation, learning, development, or career opportunities, and may consider different organizational actors such as employees, managers, or teams. The project is open to a range of empirical settings and can be approached through qualitative fieldwork, interviews, case studies, surveys, experiments, or other relevant methods.
As part of EMANAIRE, the selected candidate will join network schools, seminars, workshops, and collaborative research activities, as well as undertake international academic mobility and a secondment with a practice partner. The wider network brings together universities and practice partners working on AI, digitalization, and the changing world of work.
The supervisory team includes Jakob Lauring, Charlotte Jonasson, and Katja Einola, bringing expertise across management, psychology, workplace inclusion, digitalization, virtual collaboration, and AI-supported work. The research environment combines management and organizational research with work and organizational psychology in an interdisciplinary setting.
The position is designed as a research-focused PhD within a European doctoral network on AI and inclusion at work.
