About this position
PhD Scholarship Opportunity at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia.
Project: Regenerative Learning Ecologies: Rethinking Education for a Changing World
This PhD project sits within an innovative research program led by Associate Professor Sonja Kuzich at Curtin University. The project explores Education for Sustainability (EfS), sustainability education, transformative learning, and the emerging concept of Regenerative Learning Ecologies (RLE). It investigates how learning environments can support sustainability, wellbeing, learner agency, and ecological, social, and epistemic regeneration.
The research develops and empirically tests the Kuzich Regenerative Learning Ecologies Framework (KRLEF), integrating pedagogical, psychosocial, physical, and ecological domains. It also engages with Indigenous and place-based knowledge systems and may involve mixed-methods research, systematic/scoping review work, multi-site case studies, environmental audits, surveys, interviews, and co-designed interventions.
Ideal candidate: a high-achieving, self-motivated applicant with a background in Education and strong research capability. Interest in sustainability, climate education, or learning environments is required. Experience or interest in qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods research is desirable, as is the ability to work across interdisciplinary and cross-cultural contexts.
Eligibility: open to both domestic and international applicants who meet Curtin University PhD entry requirements.
Funding: if selected as the preferred candidate, you may be considered for an RTP scholarship. An internship is also available within the project.
Application window: submit an Expression of Interest to Associate Professor Sonja Kuzich during the Central Scholarship round (July 1–31, 2026).
