About this position

The International Centre for Cancer Vaccine Science (ICCVS) at the University of Gdansk is offering a short-term PhD student scholarship focused on the analysis of DNA sequencing results from CUT&RUN experiments. The project aims to identify genes regulated by the NRF2 transcription factor, with broader goals of understanding mRNA and protein variants of NRF2 and their impact on cellular stress responses. ICCVS, established as a joint unit of the University of Gdańsk and the University of Edinburgh, is renowned for its research into novel diagnostic and prognostic markers, personalized anti-cancer therapies, and vaccine development, particularly for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment, working alongside national and international teams dedicated to cancer biology and immunotherapy. The position involves preparing pipelines for DNA sequencing data analysis, analyzing existing CUT&RUN data, and potentially conducting the full experiment in human cells. The scholarship is funded through the Foundation for Polish Science International Research Agendas Programme, supported by the European Regional Development Fund.

Applicants must have an MSc degree in biotechnology or a related field, experience in DNA/RNA sequencing analysis, proficiency in R and Python, and skills in molecular biology, cell culture, nucleic acids isolation, and protein precipitation. Excellent English communication skills and PhD student status at a Polish university are required. The scholarship contract is for three months, with a stipend of up to 5000 PLN. Required documents include a CV, motivation letter, reference contacts, GDPR statement, and master's diploma, all prepared in English and submitted as a single PDF file.

The application deadline is 17 May 2026. Candidates should email their application to [email protected] with the reference '2026_01' in the subject line. The selection process includes an interview (online or onsite) for pre-selected candidates, and the committee's decision is final. For further information, applicants may contact Dr Alicja Sznarkowska at [email protected]. More details and the GDPR template are available at this link and on the ICCVS website.
