About this position

Postdoctoral Scholarship in T cell immunology, cancer immunology, and solid tumors at Karolinska Institutet (Department of Medicine Huddinge, Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine, HERM).

The TRM Group led by Assistant Professor Thomas R. Müller is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study how human T cells traffic between circulation and tumor tissue, with an initial focus on lung cancer. The project aims to understand tissue-resident memory T cells and their role in anti-tumor immunity, and to translate biological insight into novel cellular immunotherapy and T cell engineering strategies.

The position offers a collaborative, international research environment with access to advanced cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry, and microscopy facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with the PI, postdocs, and PhD students in a newly established team focused on human immune responses in malignancy.

Eligibility emphasizes a PhD in immunology, cancer immunology, or a closely related field, along with at least one first-author publication and strong hands-on experience in tissue and tumor immunology, cell culture, tissue processing, flow cytometry, and molecular biology. Strong English communication skills, independence, and the ability to manage multiple projects are expected. Desired experience includes human tissue samples, animal models, spatial imaging methods (IHC/chip cytometry), genome editing, cell transduction, and analysis of multimodal/single-cell data using R or Python.

This is a scholarship-based postdoctoral appointment. The scholarship is tax free, paid on a six-month basis, and normally set for twelve months at a time; in exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable. The scholarship may be granted for up to two years within a four-year period after the doctorate.

The position is located at Karolinska South Campus, Flemingsberg, Sweden. The application deadline is 16 November 2026. Applicants should submit an English or Swedish application including a CV, publication list, and a one-page summary of current work and motivation via the Varbi recruitment system.

A completed doctorate is required before the intended start date, although applicants who have not yet defended may apply if all requirements will be met in time. Required qualifications include at least one first-author publication in a recognized peer-reviewed journal, solid knowledge of tissue and tumor immunology, experience with cell culture, tissue processing, flow cytometry, and molecular biology methods, excellent communication skills, ability to work independently, ability to manage multiple projects in parallel, and proficiency in spoken and written English. Desirable experience includes human tissue samples and/or animal models of cancer, spatial imaging methods such as IHC or chip cytometry, genome editing or cell transduction, analysis of multimodal data using R or Python, and supervision of undergraduate students.

How to apply

Prepare an English or Swedish application including a complete CV, a complete list of publications, and a one-page summary of your current work and motivation. Submit the application through the Varbi recruitment system before the deadline.
