[Fees plus a stipend of £21,805 per annum for 2026/7.] PhD Studentship at the University of Exeter: Computer vision to predict falls from everyday movement in older adults . This project addresses an important clinical problem: falls are a major cause of injury-related hospital admission and death among older adults, yet current risk assessment methods are limited because they usually rely on brief one-off clinical tests. The project will use real-world-inspired movement data collected in the ST...

About this position

The University of East Anglia’s School of Computing Sciences is offering a PhD studentship at the intersection of computer graphics and generative AI. The project investigates how agentic AI systems can design, build and refine interactive 3D games and virtual worlds from high-level creative ideas.

The research will move beyond generating individual digital assets to developing complete, coherent and playable environments. The PhD researcher may work on AI agents that convert natural-language descriptions, visual references and design constraints into structured 3D worlds and game prototypes; procedural content generation combined with multimodal generative models; and systems that maintain consistent geometry, semantics and visual style.

Further areas include tool use and multi-agent collaboration for asset creation, scene assembly, scripting and simulation in game engines. The project will also explore automated playtesting and feedback to improve navigability, gameplay functionality and alignment with creative intent, alongside human-AI collaboration methods that give designers meaningful control over generation and refinement.

The work combines fundamental research in planning, spatial reasoning and generative modelling with practical innovation in game development and interactive world creation. The research environment includes a vibrant lab and collaboration with researchers in computer vision, computer graphics and AI. The project is intended to target leading venues such as SIGGRAPH, CVPR and NeurIPS, with opportunities for relevant industrial internships and collaborations.

The PhD starts in October 2027 and is supervised by Dr Cheng Wang.
