About this position
Karolinska Institutet is advertising a postdoctoral scholarship in adolescent brain development within the Division of Molecular Neurobiology and the lab of Professor Jens Hjerling-Leffler at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB).
The project focuses on how adolescent development of the nervous system, at a cell type-specific level, influences the etiology of psychiatric disorders. The lab studies biological convergence using postmortem samples, mouse models of genetic risk, transcriptomics, and large-scale human genetics, with a special interest in schizophrenia and related brain development questions.
The successful candidate will work on projects involving virus-based advanced neural circuit mapping and molecular/pharmacological tools to manipulate neural circuits. The role includes data generation, analysis, visualization, and close collaboration with computational researchers and technical staff, including participation in international consortia.
Eligibility requires a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as biology, biochemistry, genetics, or neuroscience. Applicants should have practical experience with mouse models and virus-based neural circuit mapping techniques, documented scientific publications, strong oral and written communication skills, and fluency in English. Experience with interdisciplinary computational-biological projects, synaptic tracing, and next-generation sequencing/high-throughput methods is an advantage.
The scholarship is for foreign researchers coming to Sweden for postdoctoral training. It is tax-free, normally awarded for 12 months at a time and paid every six months, with a maximum duration of two years within four years after the doctorate.
Location: Solna, Sweden. Deadline: 12 November 2026. How to apply: Submit the required English-language documents via the Varbi recruitment system.
