About this position
Doctoral Position: Development of an Organ-on-chip Platform at ETH Zurich (Bioanalytics Group, ETH Zurich in Basel, Switzerland).
This PhD opening sits at the interface of biomedical engineering, biology, and microfluidics. The group is developing organ-on-chip / microphysiological systems and vascularized tissue models to study how cells, cell-secreted molecules, and drugs cross endothelial barriers and how compounds move from tissue into the bloodstream. The project is connected to understanding the mechanisms underlying cancer metastasis.
The successful candidate will design and manufacture a microfluidic platform, develop and optimize biological assays, perform time-lapse microscopy and data analysis, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and actively participate in group meetings and collaborative research discussions.
Eligibility highlights include a Master’s degree in microsystems engineering, biomedical engineering, or an interdisciplinary study programme. Applicants from biology, bioengineering, biotechnology, materials science, or microbiology are also encouraged to apply if they have a strong interest in technology development. Prior experience in microfluidics is expected, along with strong English communication skills, teamwork, and openness to interdisciplinary research.
The position offers an intellectually challenging environment, applied work in a multidisciplinary team, and the prospect of obtaining a Doctoral degree from ETH Zurich. Advanced training in related fields and participation in international conferences are strongly encouraged.
To apply, submit a cover letter describing your background and interests, a CV, two reference letters, and copies of certificates via ETH Zurich’s online portal only. Applications by email or post will not be considered. Questions regarding the position may be directed to Prof. Petra S. Dittrich at [email protected].
