About this position
This doctoral position is based in Theme Technology and Social Change at Linköping University, a research and teaching environment that brings together social-scientific, humanistic, and interdisciplinary perspectives on technology, science, medicine, and social change.
The project examines how socio-technical systems change when biogas, previously mainly legitimized as an energy technology, is increasingly valued through multiple and potentially competing functions. The doctoral researcher will study how biogas multifunctionality affects socio-technical configurations, policy and institutional relations, and governance processes.
The research is anchored in the Swedish biogas sector and addresses its connections to agriculture, waste management, circular economy, environmental governance, energy, and preparedness and resilience. The project aims to show how emerging functions interact with established structures and how new forms of governance and institutional relations develop as biogas changes role.
The position is part of the national interdisciplinary Biogas Solutions Research Center (BSRC). BSRC develops new knowledge through co-creation and collaboration across disciplines and between researchers and practitioners from industry and public organizations. The center includes researchers and support resources from Linköping University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, together with around 50 private and public organizations representing the biogas system.
The doctoral student will combine independent research with collaboration, write scientific articles in English, present results at conferences and project meetings, and participate in weekly seminars within Theme Technology and Social Change.
