About this position
The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Coastal & Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL) offers a research opportunity in advanced engineering and physical science applications for coastal environments. CHL brings together a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and support personnel working in internationally known facilities focused on coastal, estuarine, riverine, and watershed systems.
The project centers on solving complex water-resource and navigation challenges across hydrodynamic systems such as aquifers, watersheds, rivers, reservoirs, lakes, estuaries, harbors, coastal inlets, and wetlands. The work described is broad and can include field-based experimental research, numerical modeling, or a combination of both to address coastal challenges.
Participants will work under mentor guidance at the world-renowned Field Research Facility and apply engineering and physical science principles to real-world coastal environments. The opportunity also emphasizes hands-on research with remote and in-situ sensing technologies, including optical and remote sensing tools such as EO/IR cameras, LiDAR, and X-band radar, as well as acoustic systems such as ADCPs and single- and multi-beam sonar.
This is a chance to engage with experts in a highly applied research setting and contribute to ongoing coastal and hydraulics work within a major federal research center.
