About this position
The UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center is seeking a postdoctoral scholar for interdisciplinary research focused on lake and aquatic science, hydrodynamic modeling, remote sensing, and environmental data science. The project examines the physical processes that control lake circulation and the transport of harmful algal blooms in lakes and reservoirs, using numerical modeling together with field observations, remote sensing products, and environmental datasets.
The scholar will work on developing and evaluating predictive models for harmful algal bloom probability and algae transport, combining forecasted and current weather and lake conditions. The role also includes designing and carrying out field experiments, analyzing in-situ observations and model outputs, preparing peer-reviewed publications, presenting findings, and coordinating research and outreach with agency and stakeholder partners.
This position is based at UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, a group that emphasizes interdisciplinary research and education on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, with strong public education and outreach activity. The project is anchored in the Lake Tahoe basin and contributes to management and protection of freshwater ecosystems, while offering opportunities to collaborate across disciplines and agencies.
The postdoctoral scholar will report to the project’s principal investigators and work within a research environment that combines in situ sensors, AUVs, remote sensing, and biogeochemical and organismal sampling across nearshore and offshore areas. The role also includes developing scalable data workflows, visualization tools for public-facing model predictions, and research outputs for scientific and stakeholder audiences.
