About this position

[£20,780 annual maintenance grant for 2025/26 (subject to change), full coverage of PhD programme fees, HE teacher training and practice, £700 per year GTF allowance from Year 2, Conference Support Scheme. Not compatible with other studentships such as NWSSDTP and China Scholarship Council.]

The University of Liverpool Management School is offering four-year fully funded Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs) for prospective PhD students in Management, starting October 2026. These fellowships provide substantial financial support and a unique opportunity to gain higher education teaching experience alongside your doctoral research. As a GTF, you will receive an annual maintenance grant of £20,780 (for 2025/26, subject to change), full coverage of PhD programme fees, and access to a formal HE teacher training programme in your first year. From Year 2, you will also be eligible for a £700 per year GTF allowance and support for conference attendance.

The programme is designed for candidates with a UK master's degree or international equivalent in a business and management discipline, preferably at merit or above. Applicants must submit a strong research proposal in one of the following areas: Marketing (including B2B marketing, consumer behaviour, digital identity, marketing strategy, analytics, and responsible marketing), Operations and Supply Chain Management (transport, logistics, agri-food supply chains, sustainable operations, supply chain technologies, analytics, and risk), Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship (sustainable strategy, international management, innovation, digital technologies, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion), and Work, Organisation and Management (work, health and wellbeing, leadership, equality, diversity and inclusion, identity, and grand challenges in management).

During your PhD, you will complete a teacher training programme, gain pedagogical skills, and participate in mentored classroom involvement. The fellowship is compatible with external bursaries and other postgraduate research funds offered by the Management School, but not with other studentships such as those from the North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership or the China Scholarship Council.

To apply, prepare your research proposal, transcripts, degree certificates, passport and English language certificates (if applicable), personal statement (with 'ULMS-GTF-2026 studentship' in the title), CV, and contact details of two referees. Applications are submitted online, selecting 'Management Studies – Doctor in Philosophy (PhD)' as your programme and 'Sponsor' as the funding source, with 'ULMS-GTF-2026' noted in the relevant sections. The application deadline is 2 January 2026 at 5pm UK time. After submission, shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview, and final decisions will be communicated before the second funding call in spring.

For further information or to discuss entry requirements, you may contact the Management School’s Postgraduate Research Team or relevant group directors: Dr Leighann Spencer (PhD Director of Studies), Professor Lynn Sudbury-Riley (Marketing), Professor Hugo Lam (Operations and Supply Chain Management), Professor Nikolaos Papageorgiadis (Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship), and Professor Dennis Jancsary (Work Organisation and Management).

This is an excellent opportunity to launch your academic career in management research and teaching at a leading UK institution, with comprehensive financial and professional development support.
