About this position
Fully funded PhD position in Quantum Nanophotonics and Polaritonic Phenomena at the University of Southern Denmark in Denmark.
The research will be conducted at the POLIMA Center for Polariton-driven Light-Matter Interactions within the Mads Clausen Institute. The project investigates theoretical polaritonic phenomena in two-dimensional material tunnel junctions, with emphasis on polariton-mediated inelastic electron tunnelling, van der Waals heterostructures, light–matter interactions, and quantum materials.
The PhD research will develop theoretical frameworks and computational methods for electrically driven polaritonic phenomena. It will also explore how electron tunnelling can be used to probe and manipulate nanoscale light–matter interactions, providing opportunities for work in quantum nanophotonics, condensed-matter physics, and quantum nano-optoelectronics.
Applicants should have a strong background in condensed-matter physics and/or quantum nanophotonics. Enthusiasm for theoretical quantum nano-optoelectronics, analytical methods, and computational research is expected.
The position is fully funded through a Villum Young Investigator grant awarded to Assistant Professor P. André D. Gonçalves. The application deadline is 31 December 2026. Applicants should apply through the University of Southern Denmark application portal.
