About this position
A postdoctoral position is available in Dr Kirby Swatek's laboratory at the University of Dundee, focusing on the study of ISG15 modifications, a key but underexplored signal in the innate immune response. The Swatek lab aims to unravel the immunomodulatory roles of Interferon-Stimulated Gene 15 (ISG15), a ubiquitin-like modifier that is highly upregulated in interferon-treated and virus-infected cells, marking thousands of proteins to regulate the host immune response. Despite its abundance and importance, the mechanistic understanding of ISG15’s contributions to antiviral signalling remains limited.
The successful candidate will work to characterize the cellular machinery responsible for writing and reading ISG15 modifications, merging several disciplines and building on recent discoveries in the lab. The postdoc will have access to advanced tools and state-of-the-art equipment within the School of Life Sciences, and will benefit from a collaborative environment both within the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC PPU) and with external researchers. The MRC PPU is internationally recognized for its research on protein phosphorylation and ubiquitylation, and is committed to training the next generation of scientists in this crucial area of medical research. The School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee offers a dynamic, multinational environment with cutting-edge laboratory and teaching facilities.
The Division of Signal Transduction Therapy (DSTT) further enhances opportunities for collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry, accelerating drug discovery efforts. This fixed-term appointment runs until January 16, 2029. Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field and experience in molecular and cellular biology.
